Inadequate regional and continental scale infrastructure remains a key constraint in Africa’s economic integration and in accelerated realization of the African Union’s (AU) Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want – ‘An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens, representing a dynamic force in the international arena.’ The focus is also for Africa to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030 goals, and contribute significantly towards managing climate change.
There is a need for Africa to not only fill its wide infrastructure gap, but also a need to build better, more sustainable, and climate-friendly infrastructure, one that caters to current as well as future needs.
