The Democratic Republic of Congo, a country of continental dimensions, could very soon be digitally opened up. This is the determination shown by the new Ministry of Digital Affairs, NEPAD-IPPF, the PIDA programme and a great expert and task manager such as Mr Omar Samatar Elmi. Thanks to their efforts, Congo-Kinshasa will soon have a National Backbone.
This technology, for the uninitiated, is a backbone in the context of telecommunications that has always been lacking in the DRC. It is a series of cables that carry the bulk of telecom traffic, using the fastest technologies and bandwidth over long distances. Everywhere, small telecom networks within countries will connect to this backbone, like rivers joining the course of a river. This is a regional project that will be implemented by the government, PIDA and IPPF and will build capacity.
This will allow for a substantial increase in financial resources, which is sorely needed in this time of health crisis and global economic recession.
