East African Submarine Cable System (EASSy)

Objective of the project

To assist in the transaction analysis phase of the project as well as update the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) to enable the project to reach financial closure and physical implementation. The EASSy is an initiative to construct and operate a submarine fiber-optic cable along the east coast of Africa to connect 20 coastal and land-locked countries to each other and to the rest of the world.

The objective of the project

To complete outstanding project development work: updating the feasibility study, undertaking due diligence with respect to the review of financial, technical and legal aspects of the project, and preparing a Project Information Memorandum (PIM) for presentation to public and private investors.

Multinational Burundi/Tanzania Roads: Cankuzo – Gahumo (49 km) & Bugarama – Makebuko road (88km) / Murusagamba – Nyakahura & Kumumbuga – Murugarama (141 kms) Road

The objective of the assistance from NEPAD-IPPF is to finance the recruitment of a consultancy services firm to undertake Feasibility Studies and Detailed Design of Multinational Roads Linking Burundi and Tanzania along the Central Corridor providing access to the port of Dar-esSalaam in Tanzania, to enable the project to secure downstream investment financing.

Multinational Luberizi – Kamanyola - Bukavu Road

To undertake feasibility studies and detailed engineering design aimed at improving transport infrastructure linked to the Central Corridor, a key corridor in East Africa providing landlocked countries and sub-regions with access to the port of Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania. Improvement of this road section improves access of the eastern DRC to the Central Corridor through Burundi, which will in turn spur social economic development through lower transport costs and stimulation of economic activities in the sub-region.

EAC-Rehabiliation of selected road-OSBP Manyovu-Mugina border post (Burundi-Tanzania Road) Project

1) To assess the technical, economic, social and environmental feasibility of the operational improvement and its impact on the various road and border users, necessary institutional reforms and associated improvements in the physical infrastructure for the introduction of a One-Stop Border Post (OSBP); and thereafter,
2) To conduct detailed Architectural and Engineering Designs of Manyovu/Mugina One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) to reflect the different users and the preparation of the Tender Documents; 

Ruzizi IV Hydroelectric Project

1) Conduct of technical and environmental studies & preparation of tender documents for the project (ii) Conduct of studies of the institutional and financial framework & study of project bankability 2) Preparation of the implementation of the project , assistance to promoters and countries concerned in the negotiation with the investor / developer & project management.

Ubangi River Bridge

The activities for which the Bank’s assistance is requested aim at conducting feasibility studies and detailed engineering design for the construction of a bridge over the Ubangi River, and the implementation of the missing links in the road corridors Bangui-Zongo-Kisangani-Bujumbura and Kisangani-Kampala joining the Central Africa Republic (CAR), the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Republic of Burundi and the Republic of Uganda.
